November price increases hit 1,469 food and beverage items; matcha boom drives green tea drink hikes
Japan's November 2026 sees record price increases across 1,469 food and beverage items—roughly ten times the volume from November 2025. Green tea beverages from Itoen and Suntory will rise about ¥10 per unit, driven by tea-leaf cost spikes linked to the recent matcha boom. Mayonnaise faces increases of ¥20–30 per bottle, canned coffee ¥10, and kombu prices jump ¥60 for 25-gram packs due to poor harvests, while nori gains volume at the same price.
